Forrest Griffin – Ultimate Fighter Finale 6

On  The Ultimate Fighter 6 finale after becoming one of the most famous wrestlers of the UFC,  Forrest Griffin was announced as  not only the number one contender for the Light Heavyweight title, but also one of the coaches for The Ultimate Fighter 7 by Dana White. During that season all fighters of Team Forrest made it into the finals consisting of Jesse Taylor and Amir Sadollah.

Griffin was also the co-host of 25 Toughest Moments in The Ultimate Fighter with Stephan Bonnar and Dana White on 20th June 2008. He fought the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on 5th July 2008 and won the bout on unanimous decision. He then went on to become the Undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

Forrest Griffin failed in his first title defense at UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 at the hands of undefeated challenger Rashad Evans which handed him his third loss after entering the UFC. During the fight he broke his hand and was sidelined for several months. After recovering from the injury Griffin signed on to fight pound-for-pound stalwart Anderson Silva at UFC 101. He was knocked out in the bout and it was his most humiliating defeat in UFC.

Griffin accepted a rematch against Tito Ortiz at UFC 106 where he won the battle by split decision, showing superior striking skills and a stronger ground game than in their previous fight. He locked horns against former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin on February 5, 2011 at UFC 126 and knocked him down in the second round. Griffin again faced Tito Ortiz at UFC 148 in their deciding rubber where he won the fight via a 29-28 unanimous decision out-striking Ortiz 2:1.

On 26th May 2013 Forrest Griffin announced his retirement from UFC citing chronic injuries as the reason for his decision. He along with Stephan Bonnar were inducted  into the UFC Hall of Fame on 6th July later that year.
